Work Permits

PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING A WORK PERMIT 

1. Please download the Statement of Intent to Employ Minor at the bottom of this page. You will need to print it out.  

2. This form must be completed in blue or black ink and requires the signature of the student, the employer, and the parent/guardian. 

3. Please return the completed form to Barstow High School.

* Student must provide a social security number. 

* Student must have a job already lined up before completing a work permit and the form must be completed by the employer before returning it to Barstow High School.

* Work permits expire 5 days after the beginning of the following school year they are issued. You must obtain a work permit for each employer you have.  

*GRADING/ATTENDANCE STANDARD:

Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and have no more than 7 days of absence (unexcused) in a semester. Failure to maintain these standards may be cause for revocation of your work permit. If you do not currently meet these standards you may not be issued a work permit or be issued a probationary permit until standards are met.

Do I need a Work Permit in the summer?

If you received a work permit during the school year, it will be valid even during the summer (have your employer refer to the "School Not in Session" portion of the permit). If you just got hired for the summer, you will need to apply for a work permit.

 

THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA REQUIRES THAT ALL MINORS

(A PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 18)

HAVE A WORK PERMIT ON FILE AT THE WORKSITE BEFORE THE

EMPLOYMENT IS LEGAL

Exceptions: High School Diploma or equivalent

A minor not attending school is not eligible for a California Work Permit
